About Our Opportunity
The Financial Services Officer, Accounting Clerk performs a variety of complex and critical tasks relating to financial accounting with primary responsibility for providing financial support to the Director at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.
The Financial Services Officer play an integral role in supporting all accounting processes, financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
The Financial Services Officer works and develops good working relationships with a diverse audience such as the gallery management and staff, Department of Finance, Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage, customers and vendors in the provision of analysis, advice, and recommendations to the Director and other members of the gallery management.
This position reports to the Director of Finance and Operations.
Responsibilities also include:
All processes involved in the monthly accounting cycle.
Monitor and facilitate all on-going processes, information flow, and documentation that support Financial Accounting.
Ensure accounting, budgetary, and administrative controls are adhered to,
Initial preparation of estimates and monthly forecasts, planning, preparation and coordination of financial and statistical data on expenditures
Providing advice on various aspects of the budgetary control process.
Qualifications and Experience
To be successful in this role you have if you have two years of post-secondary professional accounting training along with three years of related experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.
As the ideal candidate you have a sound working knowledge of accounting and finance procedures and policies and strong Microsoft Excel skills. You have an awareness of regulations, policies, and generally accepted accounting/ auditing principles. You utilize spreadsheet applications, understand reports, and handle administrative detail. You are proficient using Microsoft Office Suite (high level of excel skills). You also have excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to thrive in a fast pace working environment with minimal supervision and can work independently.
You possess exceptional time management and attention to detail skills to provide accurate, consistent, and timely financial information. You also have communication (written and verbal) and relationship building skills to interact and maintain relationships with various internal and external stakeholders. You are a team player and adapts to changes in information and priorities.
You are collaborative, creative, and forward thinking, challenge the status quo and provide ideas for future directions.
The following are considered assets:
Experience with Sage 300
POS/e-commerce platforms such as Shopify
Procurement software such as Erequester.
An understanding of the visual arts

Salary Range: $1,748.13 – $2,052.93 Bi-Weekly
